Staying Overnight

Visitors to Korea may opt to stay overnight at a temple through a Temple Stay program. This is a memorable experience that will give visitors a unique perspective on Korean Buddhism. Since Korean temples are surrounded by nature, many visitors will also leave clear-minded and rejuvenated.

One should be aware of the following guidelines when staying overnight at Korean temples:

-Guests should be aware that sleeping hours are from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. Only under exceptional circumstances will the designated times change.
-Unless there are sufficient rooms in the temple, guests should plan on sharing sleeping quarters.
-Monks and nuns have separate living quarters. Guests should not sleep in the same room as a monk or nun.
-The lights should not be turned on after guests have retired.
-When visitors retire, one must avoid disturbing others sleeping in the same room.
-Guests should refrain from bathing or laundering after everyone else has gone to bed.
-Visitors should behave in a courteous and considerate manner.
