Temple stay during the meal offering | | Temple Stays are unique opportunities to experience Buddhist monastic life. In Korea, the Temple Stay program was initially established for foreigners visiting Korea during the 2002 Korea-Japan World Cup. The program was so successful that over thirty-five temples have continued to offer the Temple Stay program for foreigners.

| Temple stay - Meditation | |
Most Korean temples are nestled on mountainsides. Surrounded by nature, visitors can experience firsthand the disciplined yet peaceful monastic lifestyle of Korean Buddhist monks. Activities in the Temple Stay program include: an early-morning Buddhist ritual service, a traditional Buddhist monastic meal, Seon (Zen) meditation practice and a tea ceremony. Other activities may include: helping to beautify the temple grounds, making lotus lanterns, producing sutra prints from woodblocks and learning Buddhist martial arts (Seonmudo). The Temple Stay program is a wonderful way to learn about Korea’s rich Buddhist culture while also experiencing the tranquility and beauty of Korea’s mountains and forests.
