The Calendar – Its Story

Calendars are created to suit societal needs by marking the year, month, day and annual events. The principal astronomical cycles are the day, the month and the year because every calendar on earth is based on the revolution of the Sun and the Moon. A year or a tropical year is based on the revolution of the Earth around the Sun, the month is based on the time interval from one new moon to the next and the day is based on the amount of time the Sun passes through the celestial meridian twice.
